How much car insurance do I need?
After representing a number of people who were injured in car accidents, where the other driver was uninsured or underinsured, I decided to updated my own car insurance policy. I was amazed at how little additional coverage costs per month. In a recent case, we had a client who had over $50,000 in medical bills, but the driver who caused the auto accident only had $25,000 in coverage for liability and our client only had $25,000 in underinsured motorist coverage. So the total available form insurance didn't even cover her medical bills. I looked up my own policy and saw that I only had $50,000 in accident and UM coverage. So I asked my agent how much it would cost to bump it up from $50,000 to $300,000. A huge increase - right. I found out that the majority of my cost was in the policy itself and there was very little increase in price for this huge bump in coverage. So for just a couple dollars a month I now feel secure that this ladies situation will not happen to me or my family if we are hit by another driver. I also increased my Personal Injury Protection in case the accident is my fault (which will cover my medical bills and lost wages even if the accident is my fault.
